Days between dates
Enter two dates. You get the total days, the span both in weeks and days and in years, months and days, and each date's weekday. The end date is today when the page opens. The count skips the end date unless you check Include end date, which adds one day. Business days skip weekends and holidays you list.
Uses the days federal employees get off, as OPM lists them. A holiday on a weekend moves to the Friday before or the Monday after.

Does the end date count?
Subtracting two dates gives the gap between them and leaves the end date out. Counting the days themselves includes both ends and comes out one higher. Neither is wrong. Which one you need is set by your document.
Take March 1 to March 5. You cross four midnights, so the gap is 4 days. Count the days on a calendar and both ends are days, so the span is 5. This page gives the gap by default, and Include end date switches it to the span.

When your document defines the count, use its definition. When it doesn't, write down which one you used. A deadline that lands on a weekend or public holiday often moves to the next working day, which is a third rule on top of these two. The date calculator's weekend roll applies it.
A worked contract span
A consulting agreement runs from Monday, November 2, 2026 through Friday, January 29, 2027. Enter those two dates and the page shows 88 total days, counted up to but not including January 29, which is 2 months and 27 days, or 12 weeks and 4 days. The inclusive count is 89. Because the agreement says "through," 89 is the one that matches the contract. In a spreadsheet, =B1-A1+1 gives the same 89.
Now tick Count business days. With no holidays listed, the span holds 64 weekdays. Tick Skip US federal holidays, or paste the five that fall inside it, as the Office of Personnel Management lists them:

Two things to watch. First, paste the day the holiday is observed, not the date on the calendar. In 2026, July 4 falls on a Saturday and most federal employees get Friday, July 3 off. Paste July 4 and nothing changes, because Saturdays are already out. Paste July 3 and the count drops by one. Second, a spreadsheet's =NETWORKDAYS(A1,B1,holidays) counts both ends, so it matches this page with Include end date ticked: 60 here, not 59.
How do you count the days between two dates by hand?
Count what's left of the first month, add every full month in between, then add the days into the last month. The start date isn't counted, which matches the page's default.
Take Monday, November 2, 2026 to Friday, January 29, 2027:
- November has 30 days. After the 2nd, 28 are left: 30 - 2 = 28.
- December is a full month: 31.
- Into January: 29.
- 28 + 31 + 29 = 88 days. Tick Include end date and it's 89.
Month lengths are the only thing to look up. April, June, September and November have 30 days. February has 28, or 29 in a leap year. The other seven months have 31.
Is it a leap year?
A year is a leap year if it divides by 4, except century years, which must also divide by 400. So 2028 is a leap year, 2100 isn't, and 2000 was. That's the Gregorian rule, and it's the one this page uses.
It changes the count only when February is inside your range. February 1 to March 1 is 28 days in 2027 and 29 days in 2028.
How many days are in a month, a quarter or a year?
Months and quarters aren't fixed lengths, so the answer is a range. Spans in days are exact.

In 2026, the quarters run 90, 91, 92 and 92 days. January to June is 181 days, or 182 in a leap year, and July to December is always 184.

How many business days are in a year?
From 2025 to 2030, a US year has 249 or 250 business days once weekends and federal holidays are out. The table counts every Monday to Friday in each calendar year, then takes out the federal holidays on the days OPM lists them as observed.

The years 2027 and 2028 trade a holiday. New Year's Day 2028 falls on a Saturday, so it's observed on Friday, December 31, 2027. That puts 12 holidays in 2027 and 10 in 2028. 2028 is a leap year, but it starts on a Saturday, so its extra day is a Sunday and it has 260 weekdays, one fewer than 2027.

Each month counts its Mondays to Fridays and takes out the federal holidays that fall in it. December 2027 loses two: Christmas, observed Friday, December 24, and New Year's Day 2028, observed Friday, December 31.

A holiday on a Saturday is observed the Friday before, and one on a Sunday the Monday after, for most federal employees. Banks, states and private employers set their own days, so check yours. Inauguration Day is left out. It applies only to some federal employees in the Washington, DC area. On January 20, 2025 it fell on Martin Luther King Jr. Day, and on January 20, 2029 it falls on a Saturday, with no other day observed.

Everyday counts
Is a return still inside its window? You bought something on Saturday, November 28, 2026, and the store gives 30 days. On Saturday, December 26, enter both dates: 28 days, so you're inside the window. Stores differ on whether the purchase day counts, so read the receipt. The last day is Monday, December 28 if it doesn't count.
How many days late was a payment? An invoice dated Saturday, October 24, 2026 on net 30 terms is due Monday, November 23. Paid on Tuesday, December 1, it's 8 days late: enter November 23 and December 1.
How many days of a visa stay have I used? A Schengen short stay counts the day you arrive and the day you leave, according to Switzerland's State Secretariat for Migration (read 24 Oct 2026). Arrive Tuesday, June 1, 2027 and leave Wednesday, June 30: the page shows 29, and with Include end date ticked it shows 30, which is the figure that counts against the 90 days. The 180-day window rolls, so for more than one trip use the official calculator.
Business days and holidays
Observed public holidays vary by country and change when governments move them. This page carries one list, US federal holidays as OPM publishes them, and we update it each January. For any other country, paste the dates.
A range that includes February 29 counts that calendar day like any other date. This tool does not apply a birthday anniversary rule, because it is walking from one calendar date to another rather than naming the next anniversary of a leapling. The date calculator and the age calculator carry the March 1 default and the February 28 toggle; this page does not.
Questions
How do I count the days between two dates?
Enter a start date and an end date. You'll get the total days, the full weeks, and the span in years, months and days. By default the count runs up to the end date but doesn't include it. Tick Include end date if you need both ends counted, which contracts often do.
Does the count include the end date?
Not unless you ask it to. With the default, January 1 to January 10 is 9 days. Tick Include end date and it's 10. A quick test for any tool: enter two days in a row. An answer of 1 is the gap, and 2 counts both ends.
How many business days are between two dates?
Tick Count business days. The tool skips Saturdays and Sundays, plus any holidays you paste into the box, one per line. Tick Skip US federal holidays to take out OPM's list for 2025 to 2030. Other countries' holidays aren't built in, so paste those.
How many weeks are between two dates?
The result splits the total into weeks and days, so 9 days reads as 1 week and 2 days. Need weeks as a decimal? Divide the total days by 7.
How do I count days between dates in Excel or Google Sheets?
Put the dates in A1 and B1 and use =B1-A1. That matches this tool's default and leaves the end date out. If you see a date instead of a number, format the cell as Number. For weekdays only, =NETWORKDAYS(A1,B1) works, but it counts both the start and the end date.
Are my dates uploaded?
No. The count runs in this tab. A share link keeps your dates after the # in the address, and browsers don't send that part to any server.
