Frequently asked questions
What is Benchvale?
It's a set of small tools that run in your browser, built and maintained by one person. They're grouped by job: date and time, home projects, developer, color, marketing and classroom. About Benchvale says why the site exists, and search finds a tool by name.
Who runs Benchvale?
Aaron Wilson builds and maintains every tool, and he reads what you send to the address on the contact page. His name is on each tool page. About Benchvale explains why one named person runs the site.
Is Benchvale free, and do I need an account?
It's free, and there's no account to make. The terms of use allow any use, commercial work included, and what you make with a tool is yours.
How does Benchvale make money?
Right now, it doesn't: no ads serve on any page, and there's no paid tier. The plan is advertising, placed below the tool and never above it. About Benchvale has the full answer.
Does Benchvale see what I type into a tool?
No, the tools do their work in your browser tab, so what you type isn't sent to us. Before any update to a tool page goes live, an automated check types into every box and presses every button, and blocks the update if what it typed turns up in a request. Privacy and how we build tools explain the rest.
Does Benchvale use cookies or analytics?
Not today: the site sets no cookies, and no page sends anything to an analytics service. A small switch file for future analytics does load, and it contacts nothing while analytics is off. Privacy explains that file and what the web host logs.
Do the tools work offline?
Yes, once a tool's page has loaded: let it load, then switch off your network, and it keeps working. A page you haven't opened yet still needs a connection, as how we build tools explains.
Is Benchvale written with AI?
Yes, and a person reviews all of it. The editorial policy says the software and the prose are both drafted with AI help and reviewed by a person before publishing. A wrong answer is still ours to own and fix.
What should I do if a tool gives me a wrong answer?
Email the address on the contact page with the tool, what you put in, what it gave back and what you expected. If the tool has a share link, include it. Fixes go in the changelog with the date and a note on what was wrong.
