Keyboard shortcuts
These run in your browser after the page has loaded. None of them send a request. Slash is the only single-key shortcut, and you can turn it off on this page.
Site-wide
- / focuses the search box in the header, unless you are already typing in a field. This is the shortcut WCAG 2.1.4 requires an off switch for.
- Escape clears a shown field error, or closes an open disclosure. In classroom mode it leaves classroom mode first.
- Ctrl+Enter runs the tool's main action when focus is inside the tool. On a Mac that chord is Command+Enter. Generators run Generate. The JSON formatter runs Format. Tools that update as you type copy the result.
Classroom mode
On the name picker only, and only while classroom mode is on, Space, Enter, Page Down, and Right Arrow pick the next name. Presentation clickers send those keys. They do nothing if you are typing in the class list. Arrow keys are not used outside classroom mode.
Turn slash off
Check this box if you use a layout or an extension that needs the slash key. The choice is stored on this device only when the box is checked. Uncheck it and the shortcut comes back, including on the next visit. The same privacy rule as the rest of the site applies: nothing is sent to us. That is spelled out on how we build tools.
